The School of Nursing and Midwifery hosts Milestone Presentation and Review seminars four times throughout the Academic year for all interested attendees (including academics, RHD candidates, researchers & any UQ staff or students who wish to attend). These seminars are where School of Nursing and Midwifery RHD Candidates can give their Milestone Presentations for assessment or give a 3 minute Thesis presentation for their peers.

End of Life Decision Making in Europe: Ethical and Clinical Challenges The Queensland Law Reform Commission is currently reviewing the state`s Guardianship laws, including aspects of: 1. substitute decision making for those who lack capacity 2. the powers that attorneys for heatlh care ought to hold 3. the status of advance health directives 4. the role of `good medical practice` in relation to withholding and withdrawing life-sustaining treatment 5. whether doctors should be required to obtain consent to withhold or withdraw futile life-sustaining treatment Come and hear how the Europeans are responding to these difficult challenges at end-of-life. The guest speaker giving this lecture is Professor Jochen Vollmann who is Professor and Director of the Institute for Medical Ethics and History of Medicine and Chair of the Centre for Medical Ethics, Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany.
